Richards sidelined with 'frustrating' injuryUSMNT star missed 3-straight gamesTimeline for return revealedWHAT HAPPENED?

The U.S. international, who had played in 16-straight matches for The Eagles prior to his knee injury, is finally set to return to the pitch. The central defender and Oliver Glasner's side are targeting a return against West Ham United this weekend.

“I think frustrating would be a good word for it,” Richards said ahead of their Liverpool match last weekend.

“I feel like I worked hard over the last two seasons that I’ve been here and I think I was finally reaping the benefit of that. It’s always nice playing games.

“I have a knee injury. Hopefully, what we’re aiming for is West Ham. I’m just kind of taking it day by day, hoping that it continues to heal and that’s what I’m aiming for, at least, is the West Ham game.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Palace pulled off a shocking 1-0 victory last weekend at Anfield without Richards available, but in the two matches prior, they fell to Bournemouth and Manchester City. During his 16-match run with the Eagles, they pulled off a result in nine of the matches, keeping two clean sheets.

With his potential return at the weekend now on the cards, the Eagles could receive a massive defensive boost.

The Eagles take on West Ham Saturday in a Premier League clash. The South London club will hope to pull off a result for the second-straight week as they look to end their campaign on a high note.

Jeremy Doku is Man City's game-changer! Unpredictable winger is Pep Guardiola's secret weapon in the Premier League title race

The tricky Belgian has worked on his ability to make an impact from the bench and has turned into a lethal weapon for City to turn to from the bench

Jeremy Doku has only been at Manchester City for eight months, but his time can be divided into four chapters. There was the concerning debut against Fulham, when he managed to look out of place despite the team winning 5-1 and admitted that he was "frustrated" not to have contributed.

Then there was the rip-roaring six-week period when he put Jack Grealish in the shade with a series of thrilling performances. got his first goal against West Ham, scored and assisted in the Champions League at RB Leipzig, was electric against Brighton and then was ridiculously good against Bournemouth, setting up four goals and scoring one to set FPL fans' hearts racing.

Then he injured his hamstring against Tottenham and was out for a month. He scored on his return against Huddersfield Town, but then a long and difficult period set in. He drifted in and out of the team, either starting on the bench or being the first player to be taken off. Almost five months passed without him contributing to a goal.

But now the tricky Belgian is writing a thrilling final chapter of his topsy-turvy debut campaign with City, finding a new lease of life as a secret weapon that Pep Guardiola has in his back pocket, ready to unleash just when opponents think they are about to contain his side.

    Terrorising defenders again

Doku broke his long drought of goals and assists by teeing up Phil Foden's strike against Aston Villa earlier this month. He then filled his boots in his next fixture against Luton, having a hand in all of City's goals in the 5-1 thrashing, including earning a penalty, grabbing the fourth goal himself by terrorising the defence with an awe-inspiring dribble and then laying off the ball for Josko Gvardiol's thumping finish.

But what he did next was arguably more valuable to City, and proof that he can have a vital say in the club's bid to win a fourth consecutive league title and another FA Cup.

    Twisting his way through Madrid

Guardiola turned to Doku when City were losing 1-0 at home to Real Madrid. Grealish had been performing well, but Guardiola needed something extra, and Doku delivered.

His unpredictable runs and capacity to cause chaos got underneath Madrid's skin, and within four minutes City were level. It was one of his forays into the box which unsettled Antonio Rudiger and led to him gifting Kevin De Bruyne the equaliser.

As City dominated extra-time before falling to Madrid on penalties, Doku was the thorn in their side, probing down the left and twisting Dani Carvajal inside out.

  • Getty

    'Changed the game'

Three days later at Wembley against Chelsea, Guardiola pulled the same trick, removing Grealish for Doku. The winger gave an exhausted-looking and previously toothless City side the edge, opening Chelsea up.

After fashioning one chance of his own and another for De Bruyne with his trademark dribbling, Doku lit the fuse for Bernardo Silva to score the elusive goal. But this time he did it with a clever pass to release De Bruyne, who eventually worked it to Bernardo at the back post.

When Guardiola was asked about Doku's impact after the game, his face lit up. "He changed the game, the same as Madrid when he created a lot of chances," the coach said.

  • Getty

    'Massively important'

Guardiola then revealed how he and Doku had worked together to help the player not only rediscover the sparkling form he had shown in the autumn, but also develop another side of his game. In true Guardiola style, the coach managed to praise his player while also not glossing over the weaknesses in his game.

"Jeremy has made a step. When he arrived, after West Ham, I was like 'oh my God, unbelievable player', and until his injury he was at a top level," Guardiola said. "Always when he came from the bench the impact was not good. From the start was good, the bench not good. We talked about that, how he has to make an impact when the players are more tired and he has a special quality one against one.

"Jeremy is an exceptional player one on one, close to the box. He is young and has to improve many, many things, but in the final third he is massively important for us."

Jonny Bairstow an injury doubt for 4th ODI after damaging ankle

Opener injures right ankle during England’s training session and may be replaced by Alex Hales

Jonny Bairstow has emerged as an injury doubt ahead of Saturday’s fourth ODI against Sri Lanka after injuring his right ankle during England’s training session on the eve of the match at Pallekele.Bairstow, who went past 1000 ODI runs for the calendar year during England’s seven-wicket win in the third match on Wednesday, suffered the injury while playing football on the outfield. He will be assessed by the team medical staff and a decision on his availability will be made before the start of the game. If the injury has not cleared up overnight, he is expected to undergo a scan when the squad arrives in Colombo ahead of the fifth and final ODI next week. However, Bairstow will be hugely reluctant to vacate his place at the top of the order. In the build-up to England’s World Cup campaign, he is in the midst of a three-way tussle for two opening berths, alongside Jason Roy and Alex Hales.Hales is currently the man on the outside looking in, and he will doubtless be itching to seize back his place, having lost out only two matches after he top-scored with 147 out of England’s world-record 481 for 6 against Australia at Trent Bridge in June. The opportunity could be particularly timely for Hales too, coming as it does before his Cricket Disciplinary Commission hearing in December, relating to the Ben Stokes incident in Bristol last year. With the prospect of a ban looming, potentially during the West Indies tour in the new year, Hales may have the next two matches to remind England of his qualities before they have to start finalising their World Cup squad.Another man who could conceivably be in line for a call-up, however, is Joe Denly, a late inclusion in the squad after Liam Dawson suffered a side strain in the opening match of the series.Ironically, Denly himself was on the receiving end of a notable football injury during his last incarnation as an England cricketer. He suffered bone bruising after being tackled by Owais Shah during a warm-up at The Oval in September 2009, and never went on to cement a permanent place in the side. This particular incident was not believed to be the result of a bad tackle. However, Trevor Bayliss, England’s head coach, is unlikely to prevent the players from warming up by playing football, as he still believes that the benefits of them enjoying the competition outweigh the risks of injury.

Shohei Ohtani Reclaims MLB Home Run Lead on First Pitch of the Game

Shohei Ohtani took a lead in MLB's home run race on Monday, and he didn't need much time to do it.

The Los Angeles Dodgers superstar got the Memorial Day game off to an exciting start, as he launched a 378-foot solo home run on the very first pitch of the game against the Cleveland Guardians. Ohtani swung on the first pitch he saw from Guardians pitcher Gavin Williams and blasted the 97mph fastball over the right field wall to give the Dodgers an early 1–0 lead.

It was Ohtani's 19th home run of the season, which puts the league lead back in his possession after previously being tied with New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge and Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Kyle Schwarber, both of whom have 18.

According to MLB.com's Sarah Langs, Ohtani's home run left the park at a speed of 115 mph. It's the 26th home run he's hit at 115+ mph since 2021, which is more than any other hitter in baseball.

In addition to pacing MLB in home runs, Ohtani has also been working towards a return to the mound as a pitcher. He threw a live bullpen on Sunday as he continues to work his way back to pitching following the Tommy John surgery he underwent in September of 2023.

After the first-inning blast, Ohtani is now batting .297 with 19 home runs and 33 RBIs on the season as he looks to repeat as National League MVP and help L.A. contend for another World Series title.

➡️ Siga o Lance! Santos no WhatsApp e acompanhe todas as notícias do Peixe

Getting started with a six (or a couple of blobs)

Also, who has the most international hat-tricks? And is Misbah the oldest Test captain ever?

Steven Lynch11-Apr-2017Has anyone hit his first ball in Test cricket for six? And how about his last ball? asked Julian Metcalfe from England
The only player so far to hit the first ball he received in Test cricket for six was the New Zealand offspinner Mark Craig, who cracked Sulieman Benn of West Indies over the long-off boundary in Kingston in June 2014. In the field that day, probably nodding approvingly, was Chris Gayle, who remains the only man to hit the very first ball of a Test match for six – from the debutant Sohag Gazi of Bangladesh in Mirpur in 2012. The only man known to have hit his last ball in Test cricket for six was another West Indian, Wayne Daniel, against Australia in Port-of-Spain in 1984.Lasith Malinga took a T20 hat-trick the other day, to go with three in ODIs. Does he hold the record for international hat-tricks? asked Mahinda Villarayan from Sri Lanka
Lasith Malinga’s hat-trick against Bangladesh in Colombo last week was only the fifth in T20 internationals so far. Malinga has also taken three hat-tricks in one-day internationals – against South Africa in Providence during the 2007 World Cup (when he uniquely claimed four wickets in four balls), against Kenya in Colombo during the 2011 World Cup, and against Australia in Colombo later in 2011. The only other man to take four international hat-tricks is Wasim Akram – two in Tests (in successive matches against Sri Lanka in 1998-99), and two in ODIs (both in Sharjah in 1989-90).I noticed that India’s openers Gavaskar and Srikkanth were both out for ducks against England in 1981-82. How often has this happened in ODIs? asked Harshad Patel from India
That match in Ahmedabad in 1981 was actually the first case of both openers being out for a duck in a one-day international innings. It happened again to Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikkanth not long afterwards, against Zimbabwe in Tunbridge Wells during the 1983 World Cup, in the match in which Kapil Dev’s stunning 175 not out rescued his side from 17 for 5. There have been a total of 38 such instances now, the most recent by Peter Moor and Chamu Chibhabha for Zimbabwe against Afghanistan in Sharjah in 2015-16.Hats off: Misbah-ul-Haq is poised to become the fifth-oldest Test captain of all time•AFPI was sorry to see that Misbah-ul-Haq is going to retire. Will he be the oldest Test captain of all? asked Khalid Iftikhar Ahmed from Pakistan
Assuming Misbah-ul-Haq leads Pakistan in the Tests in West Indies as planned, he will become – at almost 43 years of age – the fifth-oldest Test captain of all time, and the oldest for nearly 70 years. The top three are all English: WG Grace was 50 in 1899, Gubby Allen 45 in 1947-48, and Wally Hammond 43 in 1946-47, while Warren Bardsley was also 43 when he stood in as Australia’s captain in some of the Tests in England in 1926. Misbah also has the chance to move up from sixth to fourth on the list of oldest Test century-makers. He’s already the oldest captain to make a hundred, doing so against England at Lord’s last year.Has anyone umpired Tests in all ten possible countries, plus the UAE? asked James Armstrong from England
I think there are four men who fit the bill here. Steve Bucknor’s record 128 Tests included appearances in all ten Test-playing countries, plus two matches in Sharjah, while Billy Bowden (84 Tests), Asoka de Silva (49) and Daryl Harper (95) all stood in the ten traditional countries and the UAE as well. Note that for these purposes I’m considering the West Indies as one country: if you count the Caribbean nations separately, then Bowden stood in Tests in 17 different countries.Which Test player was nicknamed “Mystery”? asked Brian Hanagan from Australia
I think there may have been more than one player who acquired this nickname, but the one I first thought of was the former New Zealand batsman John Morrison, who later became a TV commentator. He played 17 Tests between 1973-74 and 1981-82, his 656 runs including 117 against Australia at the SCG in his second match, in 1973-74. Morrison had a mysterious grey streak in his hair when he was playing, but the nickname owed more to his slow left-arm bowling, which looked innocuous from the boundary but which nonetheless claimed a few victims – only two in Tests, but 51 in all first-class games. “There was also a bit of a mystery as to my whereabouts after play was over,” admitted Morrison with a smile.Post your questions in the comments below

Romano: Aston Villa now submit proposal to sign "superb" 27 y/o for Emery

Aston Villa and NSWE have submitted a proposal to sign a “superb” star who Unai Emery knows well, according to Fabrizio Romano.

    Aston Villa transfer news

The Villans have already brought in two new players this month in the form of Donyell Malen and Andres Garcia, and in the process, they have also said goodbye to Diego Carlos, who has joined Turkish giants Fenerbahce on a permanent basis.

As Carlos has now left, Villa have been linked with a move for Loic Bade, but while a potential deal has hit a snag in recent days, reports have emerged that they could be about to make a new offer.

Sky Sports: Club in talks to sign £75k-p/w Aston Villa player open to exit

Before the transfer window closes, there could be a big departure from Villa Park.

    ByBrett Worthington Jan 26, 2025

Carlos may not be the only departure from Villa Park this month, as Jhon Duran is continuing to be linked with a move away. Paris Saint-Germain are the latest team to show a significant interest in the forward, and given they are only willing to offer as much as £59 million, they are now willing to throw Marco Asensio in the mix to sweeten the deal.

The exit talk doesn’t stop there for the Premier League side, as Florian Plettenberg has reported that Bayer Leverkusen are working on a deal to sign Emiliano Buendia. The Argentine has fallen down the pecking order at Villa Park, and Xabi Alonso is keen to bring him to Germany.

However, David Ornstein has reported that Buendia has reached an agreement with Villa to extend his contract by one year, as the Villans are not willing to sanction a permanent exit this month.

Aston Villa submit proposal to sign "superb" star

Bade is not the only defender on Villa’s radar, as according to Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa are in talks to sign a new defender, and Juan Foyth is one of their main targets.

Romano reports that Villa have sent their initial proposal to La Liga side Villarreal already, and he is someone who knows the Premier League, as he played for Tottenham Hotspur between 2017 and 2021. It is unclear how much Foyth would cost the Midlands side, but he is under contract until 2026, so the Spanish side could be open to a possible sale this month.

Foyth, who has been dubbed “superb” by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, is someone Emery knows very well, as the defender and manager worked together during Emery’s time at Villarreal. The 27-year-old’s arrival at Villa Park would see him join a side that already has a wealth of options in the heart of defence, as Ezri Konsa, Tyrone Mings, and Pau Torres fight for a regular starting spot in Emery’s team.

But Foyth’s ability to play as a right-back as well as a centre-back means he would give the Villa boss more of an option when it comes to putting him into his team. Furthermore, his versatility could be a key reason why Villa are pushing to land his signature in this transfer window, as they continue to fight in the Premier League and the Champions League.
